Nautilus Music-Theater Rough Cuts! — selections from the 2024 Composer-Librettist Studio. Two nights, two venues:
- Monday, November 25, 7:30 PM — at the Nautilus Music-Theater studio, first floor of the Northern Warehouse, 308 Prince Street, Lowertown St. Paul.
- Tuesday, November 26, 7:30 PM — at Walker Community Church, 3104 16th Avenue (at 31st St, near Bloomington and Lake), Minneapolis.
Local writers Angela Frucci, Al Justiniano, Blossom Johnson, Brian James Polak, and Josiah Thomas Turner were joined by composers Charles Betz, Peter Durow, Tim Kirchhof, Ken Takata, and Carter-Quinn Tanis — new pieces written for, and performed by, Julia Isabel Diaz, Xan Mattek, Keri Rodau, Joshua Row, and Justin Spenner, under the guidance of Ben Krywosz and Sonja Thompson, assisted by Eric Broker. Sketches and songs that offer a fascinating glimpse into the collaborative process of making new opera and music-theater.
This was the culminating showcase of the Nautilus Composer-Librettist Studio intensive that ran November 9–24 — and the start of what would become Five Minutes On The Low Road with Josiah Thomas Turner. (Two of those songs would surface again at Rough Cuts in March 2026.)
